About Alkali-Resistant Alumina Castable 35% Al2O3 P-CAST-A35AR

Alkali-Resistant Alumina Castable 35% Al2O3 P-CAST-A35AR is a conventional castable based on chamotte and high grade SiC with Min. 35% Al2O3, suitable for service temperatures up to 1350 °C. It has a hydraulic bond and is installed by casting with vibration. Material type according to the datasheet: Dense refractory concrete (alkali resistant); raw material basis: chamotte and high grade SiC.

Conventional castables contain more calcium aluminate cement. They are easy to install, but need more water and have a higher porosity after firing than low cement grades, so they are not intended for direct contact with molten metal. Silicon carbide (SiC) raises thermal conductivity and abrasion resistance and reduces the adhesion of melt and slag. The material is designed to resist attack by alkali compounds.

Technical properties

  • Maximum service temperature: 1350 °C
  • Al2O3: Min. 35%
  • Bulk density: 2.2 – 2.4 g/cm³
  • Grain size: 0 – 5 mm
  • Cold crushing strength after drying at 110 °C: Min. 450 kg/cm²

Installation, packaging and storage

Installation: casting with vibration. Water addition, drying and initial heat-up should follow the manufacturer's instructions to achieve the best properties. Packaging: 40 kg bags (dry mix, water is added on site). Shelf life: 6 months (dry, cool, frost-free place).
